SAPI deals with the import and export of raw materials for animal feed, but is specialized in the wholesale of fish meal and oil produced mainly in South America and Northern Europe.
SAPI deals with the processing of slaughter by-products with the production of simple animal feed of origin, fats for livestock use and for the soap industry.

SAPI, relying on CPL CONCORDIA, has decided to pursue the goal of improving energy efficiency. The annual energy requirements of the SAPI plant are equal to 10,000 MWh of electricity and 21,515 MWh of thermal energy in the form of hot water and steam.

CPL CONCORDIA, in addition to having built a cogeneration plant serving the production plant in Castelnuovo Rangone (MO), has carried out plant revamping interventions including:

• Cogeneration plant with an electrical power of 1.0 MWe and a thermal power of 1.215 MWf in the form of hot water and steam to support production cycles
• Technological upgrading of the process water preheating system
• Hot water produced by the cogenerator is used for space heating, while the steam generated through the recovery of fumes is used in the production process of exhausting the endothermic engine

The revamping carried out at SAPI has led to a significant improvement in terms of energy efficiency in energy distribution, with high energy conversion indexes.
The primary energy savings with plant revamping interventions is equal to 6.5%, thus contributing to an overall saving of primary energy (with cogeneration) of 25%.
