Gas chromatographic analysis

Gas chromatographic analysis is a procedure by which the level of odorization present in the network can be determined. This is a procedure that performs the spectrogram of the gas, with the purpose of determining its composition.

CPL CONCORDIA performs the service of the analysis of the composition of combustible gases and the degree of odorization by performing gas chromatography directly through equipped mobile units.

CPL CONCORDIA’s Analysis and Calibration Laboratory performs analysis of combustible gas composition and degree of odorization by performing gas chromatography directly using equipped mobile units.

CPL CONCORDIA’s laboratory is ACCREDIA (Italian Accreditation Body) accredited to conduct the tests of:

Determination of the amount of odorizer present in fuel gas (UNI 7133 in current revision as amended).
Measurement of calorific value and density of natural gas (UNI EN ISO 6974 in current revision and amendments and UNI EN ISO 6976 in current revision and amendments).

Quality of analysis

For each substance analyzed, CPL CONCORDIA guarantees multilevel calibration, carried out with primary samples prepared according to UNI EN ISO 6142 and titrated according to UNI EN ISO 6143, for which traceability to primary samples is always guaranteed.

Each instrument is used under optimal conditions, thanks to the special set-up of the vehicles that protects the analyzers from external environmental factors that may affect the measurement, and allows for the best analytical performance.

Each measure is formalized by means of Test Reports complying with legal requirements and endorsed by licensed professional chemists.

Types of analysis and measurements

Odorization rate measurement

Odorization rate control of combustible gases (natural gas, gasified LPG, propane air) is prescribed by A.E.E.G. Resolution 574/13.
Thanks to accreditation, the service is now among the few able to conduct field measurements while maintaining full compliance with applicable guidelines for odorization rate determination for Del. 574/13 A.E.E.G.

Assisted adjustment of lambing plants

Assisted regulation of lambing systems is carried out according to UNI 9463-1. Experience gained over decades of operation is put at the service of operators to optimize odorization in all types of facilities

Quality measurement

Biogas and natural gas
- The analysis is carried out in the field with portable gas chromatographs operating according to UNI EN ISO 6974-4. The analysis determines the concentration of the main components of natural gas. The calculations prescribed in UNI EN ISO 6976 for the evaluation of calorific value, density and Wobbe index are applied to the analytical results.
LPG and propane fuel blends
- Gas chromatographs are configured for quantitative determination of the presence of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons and are used to determine mixture composition.
  In compliance with the standard, calculations are made from the properties of the gas mixture

Sample processing

Each vehicle is equipped with a direct sampling system, conforming to UNI EN ISO 10715, which ensures that the sampled gas mixture is analyzed without affecting the gas characteristics. Field analysis allows the outcome to be readily available and limits the amount of measurements that need to be repeated.
