CPL CONCORDIA wins the European Cogeneration Oscar with the Lamborghini project

28 October 2019 - CPL CONCORDIA is the first in Europe with the trigeneration plant built for Automobili Lamborghini SpA to serve the Sant'Agata Bolognese production plant.

The "Recognition Awards" ceremony took place in Madrid on the occasion of the COGEN Europe Annual Conference on the theme "Cogeneration: efficient and clean heat and electricity for Europe's sustainable energy future". Representatives of CPL CONCORDIA and Automobili Lamborghini SpA jointly received the "COGEN Europe 2019 Recognition Award" in the "Market Development (organization)" category.

The motivation for the award underlines "the significant contribution" made by the CPL-Automobili Lamborghini cogeneration project "to the improvement, growth and promotion of the cogeneration market in Europe". COGEN Europe, the European association for the promotion of cogeneration, expressed its opinion through a qualified jury composed of professionals from industry, politics and researchers with extensive expertise in the cogeneration and energy sector.

"COGEN Europe's recognition, rewarding an ambitious and prestigious project carried out in synergy between leading companies in the Emilia region, It enhances over 30 years of CPL CONCORDIA's activity and the important know-how developed in cogeneration, making us particularly proud", he commented on accepting the award CPL General Manager Pierluigi Capelli, present at the evening together with the Sales Director Rosario Calandruccio representing the Modena-based multi-service company.

The winning project

The project that has aroused the applause of the COGEN Europe jurors consists of two elements: a trigeneration plant consisting of two cogeneration modules powered by methane gas to produce heat and electricity coupled to two absorbers for cooling; a 6 km district heating network that connects the Lamborghini plant to a biogas energy plant through cogeneration. Thanks to the energy produced by the trigeneration plant and that recovered from district heating powered by renewable sources, last year Automobili Lamborghini SpA covered 34% of the company's energy needs, achieving significant energy savings of over 1.4 Ktoe of primary energy saved and avoiding the emission of over 1,000 tons of CO into the atmosphere2 equivalents.

The use of cogeneration has also contributed substantially to Automobili Lamborghini's achievement as the first company in the world to achieveCO2 neutral certification through DNV GL's "Carbon Neutrality" program. CPL CONCORDIA and Automobili Lamborghini SpA strongly believe in environmental sustainability, adopting on a daily basis the directives and philosophy underlying international standards such as ISO 14001 and 50001.
