Efficiency, cogeneration, gas distribution, LNG but also water (“we need a clear picture as soon as possible”). The company’s objectives in the interview with President Barbieri.<\/h4>\n\n

“Of course, we want to be a major player in the energy sector<\/strong>.” This is the goal<\/strong> set by CPL<\/strong> CONCORDIA<\/strong> President Paolo Barbieri<\/strong>, interviewed by QE on the sidelines of the conference for the 120th anniversary of the cooperative<\/strong> (QE<\/strong> 2\/4). An opportunity to shed light on the development paths<\/strong> designed for the efficiency, cogeneration<\/strong>, LNG<\/strong>, gas and<\/strong> water<\/strong> distribution markets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Q: You celebrated your 120th anniversary by organizing an event dedicated to work 4.0. Why this theme?<\/em> <\/strong>A:<\/strong> Because in our name (Cooperativa di Produzione e Lavoro)<\/strong> and in our DNA<\/strong> is inscribed<\/strong> the value of work<\/strong>. We have come out<\/strong> of a complicated<\/strong> moment<\/strong> in which guaranteeing income<\/strong> and employment<\/strong> to our members<\/strong> and employees<\/strong> has been the priority<\/strong>. An awareness<\/strong> that is now the basis of the industrial objectives<\/strong> we want to set ourselves.<\/p>\n\n

Q: What are, in particular, the objectives of your three-year presidency?<\/strong> <\/em>A:<\/strong> Improve turnover<\/strong>, EBITDA<\/strong> and equity<\/strong>, reducing<\/strong> debt<\/strong>. This is what happened in 2017 and 2018 and we are convinced that we can improve further<\/strong>. What? With the activities related to our main core business<\/strong>, which is 360-degree energy efficiency<\/strong>. We will do this in the Italian market<\/strong>, resuming the analysis of the opportunities<\/strong> that may arise abroad<\/strong>.The energy efficiency<\/strong> services<\/strong> sector<\/strong> is mature<\/strong> and highly competitive<\/strong>, with the main customers<\/strong>being the public<\/strong> sector. Here we are investing in technology<\/strong> and highly qualified technical and human<\/strong> know-how<\/strong>, thanks also to a punctual management<\/strong> of big data<\/strong> and using blockchain<\/strong>. This is an added value<\/strong> that I think will be recognized by the market.In the case of cogeneration<\/strong> and trigeneration<\/strong>, on the other hand, the main customers<\/strong> for us are private<\/strong> individuals and I see that in this sector for some years there has been a certain regulatory stability<\/strong> that allows us to make development and investment<\/strong> policies<\/strong>.In the case of gas distribution<\/strong>, we continue to be a qualified technology supplier<\/strong> for Italian utilities<\/strong> . Finally, we are also looking closely at the water sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Q: The water sector could undergo a process of important change with the possible approval of the M5S PDL on public water.<\/strong> <\/em>A:<\/strong> I don’t know all the details of the bill, but what we as entrepreneurs want to have as soon as possible is a clear framework<\/strong> within which to operate. Clarity over a medium period of time will lead to the necessary redevelopment<\/strong> in the water sector<\/strong> for optimal management<\/strong>. We see large multi-utilities<\/strong> that need technological support<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Q: Can gas distribution tenders also be an opportunity for new investments in the networks?<\/strong> <\/em>A:<\/strong> Yes, for us gas is<\/strong> an opportunity<\/strong> to provide maintenance<\/strong>, testing<\/strong>, odorization<\/strong> and cathodic protection<\/strong> services<\/strong>. The unblocking of tenders goes hand in hand with the unblocking of investments<\/strong> with the recovery<\/strong> of<\/strong> a market<\/strong> that is waiting to know<\/strong> the future dynamics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Q: Finally, how do you operate on LNG?<\/strong> <\/em>A:<\/strong> LNG<\/strong> is a significant opportunity<\/strong>: we are building systems<\/strong> for refueling<\/strong> mobility<\/strong> and we also sell<\/strong> directly<\/strong> through POLARGAS,<\/strong> one of our 100% subsidiaries. We buy LNG abroad<\/strong> and transport it by road<\/strong> to guarantee<\/strong> supplies<\/strong>. In addition, we have a sector<\/strong> of the cooperative<\/strong> that builds LNG plants<\/strong> for utilities<\/strong> or individuals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Q: During the conference in Rome you presented your activities in Sardinia. What are the characteristics of the project?<\/strong> <\/em>A:<\/strong> In Sardinia<\/strong> , we have a contract with Italgas<\/strong> for the construction<\/strong> of gas distribution networks<\/strong>, with the parallel laying of optical fibre<\/strong>. In about 24 months<\/strong> we will make more than 300 km of networks<\/strong> operational<\/strong>, a project<\/strong> that has led us to 200 hires<\/strong> on the island<\/strong> alone and others<\/strong> planned at national level.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Q: In Europe or internationally, what could be your target markets?<\/strong> <\/em>A:<\/strong> We already have an office in Romania<\/strong> with fifty employees<\/strong>. It is a context in which the economy is growing a lot and could be a base from which to start.<\/p>\n\n
