The municipality of Reggio Emilia was awarded in Rome for the "SMART LUX" project that integrates Smart Lighting and Smart City systems, allowing a saving of 65% compared to historical consumption. The project was carried out through a form of public/private partnership with CPL CONCORDIA, using An innovative remote control and management system.

The Reggio Emilia Municipality of Montecchio Emilia has been awarded the national award " Best Practice Public Heritage 2017" awarded as part of the P.A. (Public Administrations) Forum held in Rome at the end of May. The initiative aims to highlight the most innovative experiences and projects promoted and developed in partnership between public bodies and private companies.

The prize awarded to Montecchio concerns the " SMART LUX" project for the redevelopment of public lighting, and refers to the integration between Smart Lighting and Smart City systems. The project was carried out through a form of public/private partnership with CPL Concordia, using the legal instrument of the "availability contract". Also noteworthy is the management approach, which saw the administrative process completed in just 13 months , from the approval of the intervention in the budget to the awarding of the tender; In less than 6 months, CPL CONCORDIA carried out the executive design and redevelopment works .

The intervention included the Total replacement of 2,400 light points throughout the municipal area with the latest generation of lighting fixtures (over 2000 LEDs) connected to an innovative remote control and remote management system which allows a triple result in terms of energy efficiency, savings on consumption and reduction of polluting emissions into the atmosphere.

The new public lighting system has led to an effective saving of €230,000/year with a reduction in consumption even higher than initially forecast. Compared to a 50% reduction in consumption, the Municipality was able to achieve a 65% saving result, equal to 195 toe (tons of oil equivalent) per year, avoiding the emission of 328 tons/year of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The 14-year contract will also bring several benefits in terms of reducing light pollution and accent lighting for ancient villages and parks, with enhancement of historic buildings. In addition, the digital connection network between the Montecchio lighting poles can be used in the future for further services of public interest: for example, control sensors for road safety, air quality detection, video surveillance services in the area and wi-fi connection networks.
