Networks gas, water, sewer, and district heating networks of Brescia and Bergamo

A2A has awarded to CPL CONCORDIA one of the five lots for the construction of gas, water, sewer, and district heating networks in the Province of Brescia and one in the Province of Bergamo.

The procedure entails works over an area that is potentially quite large (more than 7400 square kilometers) and heavily populated (more than 2,200,000 inhabitants). Making this worksite even more challenging is the fact that this area includes sections that will require particular care and evaluation with regard to safety and timely execution of the operations, such as the historical city centers of both Bergamo and Brescia. The works that are the object of the contract include the execution of all the civil works, the transportation and installation of all the materials provided by the client, assembly, insulation, placing in service, and anything else necessary to make the networks complete and operational. The hydraulic installation of pipelines, consumer hookups, as well as the hydraulic works to be performed using specialized personnel will also be required.

Features of the system

Specifically there will be two crucial aspects that will test the capabilities to manage: the speed and small size of the operations on the road surfaces. The excavations must be made so as to cause the least amount of obstruction to foot traffic and vehicle traffic; even if they are made along the same road, they must be made in sections that are a maximum of 100 meterslong, while new sections must be initiated only after the previous ones have been completely filled in and completed; protection of the safety of the personnel as well as the residents. Like for networks that transport and distribute gas, the following is valid also for residential district heating networks: since they consist of pipelines that transport water at a high pressure (up to 16 bars) and a high temperature (up to 130° C), particularly strict safety measures are necessary, both if the pipelines are laid underground as well as if they are installed overhead inside the buildings.
